Earthquakes In Connecticut?

quakemapMost think earthquakes only occur in California, but occasionally smaller quakes can rattle our small state of Connecticut. What would you do in the event of an earthquake? Homeowners insurance traditionally does NOT cover earthquake damage and since we have had quite a few earthquakes in Connecticut the past couple of months, people’s homes received damage that was not covered.

Earthquake coverage needs to be endorsed onto your homeowner’s policy. Unfortunately, a lot of companies in CT do not allow this endorsement or If they do, it is an average premium of $150 per year to have the coverage. If you are not sure if you have earthquake coverage, chances are you don’t. If like others in Connecticut you have become aware of the potential for an earthquake to in fact occur in our area, it would be wise to inquire with your insurance provider.

Barth Insurance can answer any questions you may have about a poilcy endorsement for earthquake coverage. Knowing what you’re up against is the best measure you can take ahead of time to be sure your home and your precious items are protected in the event of this natural disaster.
